Bwahaha … knitters

After washing, blocking and already wearing it once, I just found an errant stitch marker on the inside of my tabard shirt. Way to go.

Progress Report

I finished the Tabard shirt a while ago, but only now got around to taking pictures:

Thinking about writing up the pattern, but I still have some other designs lying around that I should deal with first. I love coming up with them – writing them down? Not so much.

I also finished test knitting Natalie’s Manhattan Bridge shawl, which I love and can’t wait to wear when fall comes around again. Pictures will have to wait until she’s published the pattern, though.

I was weak yesterday

You see, my LYS had this sale …  I guess you can tell where this is going? Yeah, I bought a bunch of new yarn.

I have this idea for a summer shirt that I haven’t quite figured out yet. I’m thinking something tabard with a fake undershirt. I was poring over sketch and gauge and construction last night when the tiger, always helpful,  remarked: “Don’t think too hard; I think I can see steam coming out your ears.” Right.

I cast on at some point, ripped back out, cast on again, rinse and repeat. I think I have a starting point now, but I had to go down a couple of needle sizes from the one recommended on the ball band, so now I have no clue, if I have enough yarn. We’ll see, I guess. I’ll try to knit up the back fast, so I can better determine how far what I have will get me, and maybe still have a chance to get the same dye lot. Of course, if I have to buy more it won’t be on sale anymore. *headdesk*

Maxima cardi

I sewed up the seams today and took some pictures. I love this cardi so much. I can’t wait to wear it to knit night tomorrow.

I initially thought about knitting the sleeves in the round, but then decided on flat to give them the structure of a seam. For the same reason I decided against knitting cuff to cuff; I think it really profits from the seam in the back. Apart from which it was much easier to wield in two pieces.

I’m easily bored

… especially with miles of stockinette stitch in fingering weight on 3.25mm needles. So I put Cecily aside for a bit to start an instant gratification project, a cardi with Manos Maxima on 5mm needles. Mind you, it’s still miles of stockinette, but it has color changes, and it goes so much faster. Besides, the yarn is soft and squishy and altogether to die for. I’ve been wanting to knit with this forever. Oh, and it’s been in my stash since last summer, so it totally counts as stash-down. WIN!

13°C – showers

I wrote up my first pattern and uploaded it on Ravelry. I didn’t expect quite so many people to be interested in it. I’m amazed and stoked and a little overwhelmed by the response. Wow. I can’t wait to see it finished on someone else’s project page. How exciting. :o)

Finished the prototype of my very first shawlette design. I still have to fudge the math on the increases a bit to make the base angles a bit more acute, so that it’ll be easier to use as a neckcloth, but overall I’m quite happy with the way it looks:

26°C – rain

Well, I got one trellis done, ready to be mounted as soon as the paint dries. After that it started to pour.

So I spent the day researching pattern makers. Not the colorwork type this time, but the symbol charts for pattern knitting or crochet. There seems to be only one decent one out there, which I might try the demo version of.

But I found a set of symbols for download as a true type font. Four bucks. Very cool. The tiger suggested a vector graphics program  for writing the charts, and I must say I like. I have to work my way through one or the other Inkscape tutorial now. Exciting stuff this. I know I get excited about the weirdest things.
